TexPTS Emerging Leaders Program Enhances Physical Therapy Experiences And Outcomes For Patients

The inaugural class for the Texas Physical Therapy Specialists Emerging Leaders Program graduated May 17, 2011.

(San Antonio, TX – June 16, 2011)

The inaugural class for the Texas Physical Therapy Specialists (TexPTS) Emerging Leaders Program; Serelle Bennett, Amy Count, Monica Fielding, Paul Jurica, and Tim Lybarger graduated May 17, 2011. TexPTS provides a number of personal and professional opportunities for their staff, helping them and TexPTS to be the best in their field. One of those opportunities is the TexPTS Emerging Leaders Program. This is a program designed for the professional development of internal staff new to leadership or those who aspire to one day move into leadership positions.

Courses for the program are developed internally. The course materials covered over a four month period include four learning modules: Leadership and Management; Organizational Development; Organizational Communication; and Staff Development and Performance Management. Participants’ learning is facilitated through a combination of required readings, written assignments, discussion boards, electronic perspectives and responses, online presentations, videos, and three face to face group sessions.

Consistent with TexPTS’ staff interest and connection to providing excellent customer service, the group’s final project, a Mentoring Program for Support Staff, was formally presented to TexPTS Leadership at a luncheon held in their honor on May 17, 2011. The group presented a well developed plan, enthusiastically accepted by the TexPTS Leadership.

A key component to clinical excellence and exceptional customer service, or the care and attention provided to patients, is the model set by the TexPTS leadership. TexPTS strongly believes in investing in their staff. In turn, these staff members will have a vested interest in helping to provide the best service possible to patients.

“Research shows that there is a direct correlation between patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction, something TexPTS has taken to heart,” explains Izetta Slade, Emerging Leaders Program Director and Training and Development Manager for PT Development, LLC. “TexPTS is an extremely progressive-minded team focused on engagement for not only patients, but for staff as well. Their efforts to develop employees are one of the things that makes their physical therapy services better than competitors.”

According to Physical Therapy Journal, August 2010, positive perceptions of care and collaborative relationships between patients and their therapist are associated with better patient outcomes. Better patient outcomes consist of improved recovery, better emotional health and lower long term health costs. TexPTS physical therapists are not only schooled in the best medical research, but they and their staff are trained in the best customer service practices to create these positive perceptions of care and collaborative relationships. The TexPTS team promotes 10 AmaZing! principles, which empower them to go out of their way for patients.

The Emerging Leaders Program is an additional facet in their efforts to provide patients with an amazing experience in physical therapy.
