Don’t Get Stuck On The Sidelines With An Injury That Could Have Been Prevented At TexPTS

Select Texas Physical Therapy Specialists (TexPTS) physical therapists are now certified providers of Functional Movement Screens and Y-Balance Tests.

(San Antonio, TX – March 30, 2011)

Select Texas Physical Therapy Specialists (TexPTS) physical therapists are now certified providers of Functional Movement Screens and Y-Balance Tests. No matter what an athlete’s sport, on the field, court, track, or mat, minimizing downtime and missed work or school is critical. Athletes can’t afford to miss one practice, game or event. This new certification means that TexPTS physical therapists are experts in assessing risk for hard to predict injuries and identifying steps that keep athletes playing.

An Injury Risk Assessment is comprised of a Functional Movement Screen and a Y-Balance Test. It is a movement-oriented assessment to evaluate an athlete’s risk for injury before it happens. TexPTSphysical therapists use these test results to further reduce the risk of injury and to identify performance enhancing strategies for the athlete. They can also share the interpreted results with coaches, trainers and physicians.

“Weekend warriors, school-aged athletes and professional athletes can all benefit from Injury Risk Assessments”, comments Jennifer Christie, PT, DPT, TexPTS Stone Oak Clinic Director. “Functional Movement Screens and Injury Risk Assessments are proven to prevent injury for athletes. We can identify where athletes have weaknesses and show them ways to strengthen these areas.”

A Functional Movement Screen is a test to determine “how well you move” and discover hidden weaknesses before they affect performance or turn into injuries, magnifying an athlete’s potential. A Y-Balance Test is a quick and easy balance-based test used to assess an athlete’s risk for injury. It is highly accurate and can also be used for measuring pre and post rehabilitation performance, improvement after performance enhancement programs, and return to sport readiness.

“If left alone, unknown weaknesses can sideline runners in mid-training for a marathon, football players in their senior year looking to play in college, or club soccer players during the championship game”, states Jon Sams, PT, DPT, TexPTS Bulverde/Spring Branch clinic director. “It’s not worth taking the risk of not having these tests.”

Top professional and NCAA sports organization currently using these same screens to assess injury risk and keep their athletes playing: The National Football League, The Texas Rangers, Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcolns, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Baylor University, Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Indians, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Stanford University, Texas A&M University, University of Georgia, United States Military, University of Texas, University of Maryland, University of Wisconsin, University of Missouri Basketball, Ohio State University, and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Jon Torine, Head Strength Coach of the Indianapolis Colts, comments on the 2011 Functional Movement Systems website, “It’s the foundation of our program. Everything we do builds off of it. We wouldn’t think of not using this program.”

TexPTS therapists provide Injury Risk Assessments at their locations in Stone Oak, Bulverde/Spring Branch, San Marcos, Balcones Woods and Bee Caves. Visit texpts.com for more information or call 888-658-8483.
