TexPTS Physical Therapist Earns Orthopedic Specialist Certification

Texas Physical Therapy Specialists is proud to announce that Elizabeth Calabria PT, DPT, OCS has received training and earned the professional designation of Orthopedic Certified Specialist.

Texas Physical Therapy Specialists (TexPTS) is proud to announce that Elizabeth Calabria PT, DPT, OCS has received training and earned the professional designation of Orthopedic Certified Specialist. This board-certification is granted by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS) and involves rigorous application and examination processes and provides assurance to patients and the medical community of Dr. Calabria’s skills and abilities. Dr. Calabria is recognized for advanced knowledge, experience, and skills in the practice of orthopedic physical therapy and the conditions effecting bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves. Dr. Calabria treats patients at the TexPTS Balcones Woods location.

Similar to physician specialization, there are eight specialty areas in which physical therapists can be board certified. Roughly 6.5% of the physical therapists in the United States are Board Certified in a specialty and only 3.9% of therapists in the United States are Orthopedic Certified Specialists. Those with this advanced certification are considered to have a great depth of knowledge and skills in their specialty area of physical therapy.

“This certification has enabled me to treat different types of orthopedic issues and I am now better prepared to help patients in Austin,” states Dr. Calabria. “I look forward to providing better care for my patients and helping them return to their desired activities as quickly as possible.”

Dr. Calabria completed her undergraduate degree in 2007 at The College of New Jersey where she obtained a Bachelors of Science in Biology with a minor in Art. Her Doctorate of Physical Therapy was completed at Duke University in May 2010. Dr. Calabria has a strong passion for American Sign Language (ASL). She is now certified in ASL and is working on becoming an ASL interpreter. She has blended her love for ASL and physical therapy by treating deaf and hard of hearing patients.
