The OCS certification focuses on evidence-based practice, orthopedic injury examination, treatment, and medical interventions, while the SCS certification concentrates on acute and critical sports injury treatment and sports injury prevention and wellness.

The advanced clinical knowledge and skill set that comes with a Board Certification allows therapists to better treat the patients in their specialty and keeps them up-to-date with cutting edge research and technology. Roughly 6.5% of the physical therapists in the United States are Board Certified in a specialty. Of those, less than 5.7% of physical therapists are Board Certified in Orthopaedics (OCS) and less than 1% are Board Certified in Sports (SCS).

“On behalf of the Texas Physical Therapy Specialists team, our sincere congratulations to all the men and women who earned their Orthopaedic and Sports Clinical Specialist certifications this year,” said TexPTS Co-Owner David Browder, PT, DPT, OCS. “We couldn’t be more proud of the hard work they demonstrated throughout the process, as well as their drive and passion to become better clinicians for their patients’ benefit.”
